-Candidates will be interviewed at Special Meeting on June 6, 2017
Seven community members submitted their applications to fill the vacant Board of Education seat created when Board Trustee Mariam Bazzi resigned her position to accept an appointment as a judge in the Wayne County Circuit Court.
The Board will hold a special meeting on June 6, 2017 beginning at 5:45 p.m. at the Administrative Service Center, 18700 Audette, Dearborn 48124 to interview the candidates. The fifteen minute interviews will start at 6:00 p.m.
The seven people seeking to fill the vacancy are:
- Wadeeah Alshawi
- Roxanne McDonald
- Adel Mozip
- Celia Nasser
- Alex Shami
- Zeinab Sobh
- Irene Watts
Each candidate brings a unique set of skills and background knowledge to the position. Ms. McDonald and Mr. Shami have both served on the Board, McDonald from 2012 through 2016 and Shami from 1995 to 2002. Adel Mozip is no stranger to the Dearborn Public Schools serving on the District’s Strategic Plan Committee and having previously run for a seat on the Board.
The Board is required to select a new Trustee within thirty days of Bazzi’s May 22nd resignation. The Board is hopeful they will be able to officially vote on a new Trustee at their regularly scheduled meeting on June 12. If not, they can approve the appointment at the June 19 Henry Ford College Board meeting. Trustees on the Dearborn Board of Education also serve on the Henry Ford College Board.
If selected, the new Trustee will serve on the Board until November 2018. At that time, the seat on the Board will be included in the School Board November election and will become a partial term lasting two years.
